A look back at July part one

Part One:

July was a busy month.

Brian and I always have something going on. Between everything we seem to keep ourselves busy.

The 4th of July I ran the Firecracker 5K for the second time. It was just as hot and muggy as summer of 2012! Following the race we went to my MIL's for a BBQ. Brian & Al got up at the crack of dawn literally maybe even sooner than that all to smoke a brisket! It was mighty tasty. We spent the day poolside taking it easy.

A few days later we celebrated my Mom-Mom's 85th Birthday! It was a surprise birthday party. Many said, why would you have a surprise birthday party for someone that old. Well she was super surprised and lived through it. The majority of our family was at the event. The best surprise by far was my cousin Gary, his wife Stefanie and their two kids. They came around the corner last and my Mom-Mom was just so pleased to see them.  It was wonderful. My Dad & Rachel hosted the party.  We were able to sit around and catch up and tell stories. Isn't that how all family parties should be?

We kept the momentum up and got up early the next day and went to the Pocono 400. My Dad & brother's company that they work for sponsors a car so we were able to score free pit passes and tickets to the event. It was neat. VERY hot. But we dealt with it. The worst part of it was the traffic leaving the parking lot and driving down the turnpike! What is normally and hour and half to two hours took four hours. It was so bad. Thanks goodness for e-readers and smart phones.

We participated in the color run again. It was a total dud. We sat in traffic for way too long to get there. It was a disaster. We were three hours late. We still tried to have fun. Let me be clear, that was my last color run ever. It was awful. Such bad event planning staff. Bad everything. Let me stop before I get my blood pressure up again!

Wedding number two for the summer of 2013. Amy & John. My dear college friend wed her best friend in northern New Jersey. It was a beautiful indoor ceremony thankfully since again, what a surprise it was so hot in July this year. I was so happy to catch up with some college friends. I was even able to see one of my most favorite college professors and his wife. We danced the night away and had a blast!

One of my most favorite work events took place- Christmas in July. It is an annual toy run put on by the local police motorcycle club. It is a well oiled machine that runs so smooth each year. We're always so grateful for all the items to hold us over until the giving season. I always say hospitals are like food pantries. We need food all year round, not just at the holiday time. Same with pediatric hospitals, we  need toys all year round! Think about donating throughout the year and not just during the giving season~ ok enough of my soapbox!

More about July tomorrow~
